Cross-docking is the practice in the field of logistics unloading materials from semi-trucks or railway cars and loading them on the outbound trailers or rail cars, with little or no space between them. This can be done to the type of transmission, or to sort materials for different directions, or combine material from different sources.

In pure form, there will be direct, with minimal or no storage space. In practice, many cross-docking “production requires large areas in which incoming materials are sorted, consolidated, and stored until shipment milestone is complete and ready to ship.
